TRAVEL IN TAIWAN - 2018 Spring Eagle-Spotting and Cycling Event in Mt. Bagua” in central Taiwan
If you like eagles and cycling, central Taiwan’s Mt. Bagua is the place to be this spring. The Tri-Mountain area of central Taiwan lies on a major migration route for northbound grey-faced buzzards. Large numbers can be seen passing through the area’s mountains from late March to early April as they head to their breeding grounds in East Russia, North China, Korea, and Japan, after wintering in Southeast Asia.

To combine the love of animals and ecology with cycling, the Taiwan Tourism Bureau’s Tri-Mountain National Scenic Area Administration is organizing the “2018 Spring Eagle-Spotting and Cycling Event in Mt. Bagua” during early April and is offering special tourists’ services as follows:

Visitors who visit the Mt. Bagua Visitors Center during this period will see umbrella installation art designed by the artist Mr. Wang Shu-wen, who works with the Fuyuyang Umbrella Company. The installation art will be exhibited at the Baguashan Visitors Center Plaza from now till April 8. Don’t miss the great photo opportunities!

An easy tour of the city of Changhua has also been planned during this period. Fourteen stores with unique characteristics (including bookstores, stationery stores, coffee shops, and dessert shops) will provide special offers for visitors. For example, the Family Fun Tour offers two-day buzzard watching tours at cost of NT$1,850 per person. (The Family Fun Tour/ Tel: 886 4-23029699)

Bike maker MERIDA is promoting the “13920 itinerary.” Those who join the cycling event on County Road 139 at the 20th kilometer marker can get a scarf of limited edition featuring the numbers 13920, which if said in Mandarin Chinese, sounds like “Love you only.” For reservation, please contact Coach Hong of MERIDA Bike at +886 49- 2292472, or the Mt. Bagua Visitors Center at +886 4 7289608.

By connecting the ecological resource of grey-faced buzzards, cycling events and the local shops and specialty products industry, we hope to develop this area into a resort for eagle watching, hiking, and cycling and make it a fun travel destination for both domestic and overseas tourists.
